LARGS AND MILLPORT INFORMATION BUREAU – February newsletter

With Spring on its way, Largs is already advertising plenty of events to interest local people and visitors alike, so let’s get moving –

On Tuesday 1 Feb the Bosom Buddies group is meeting, as usual, in Lounge. This group is open to anyone suffering cancer or undergoing treatment. As the group is celebrating its fourth birthday this year, there’ll be tea, coffee and some birthday cake. Call Liz on 675709 or Cathy on 675865 for further details.

Also on 1 Feb, Largs Gardening Club is holding a Fun Quiz Night at the Willowbank Hotel at 7pm. Bar refreshments are available and everyone is welcome.

From Wednesday 2 Feb from 1pm to 3.30pm, there’s a free seven week course entitled Computing For Employment, at Largs Library. This is run by NAC. For more information call 01294 604612.

The OIR monthly meeting is at 2pm in Dunn Memorial Hall on 2 Feb and features a talk and entertainment by Largs Amateur Operatic Society.

Largs and District Angling Club has fee paying nights at JG Sharps bar from 7.30pm on Monday 8 and Wednesday 10 Feb. New members are always welcome.

Largs and North Ayrshire Family History Society is hosting a talk on Blair Castle and Its People at Largs Library at 78.30pm on Tuesday 8 Feb.

On Tuesdays from 15 Feb, there are five meetings on the theme of The Night Sky And The Universe at the George Hotel from 7.30pm to 9a.30pm. The cost of the course is $49/£24.50. Call 0141 3301860 for more information.

Largs Flower Club meets at Clark Memorial Hall on Wednesday 16 Feb, when there’ll be a demonstration by Elizabeth Coyle from Edinburgh. The theme is A Flower Odyssey. All members and guests are welcome and the talk begins at 2pm.

On Friday 18 Feb The Largs Film Society is showing the film “Fargo” at the Valhalladrome, Vikingar, at 7.30pm. For details about joining the Society, call 52274

A reminder that Age Concern is open to anyone over 60 from Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm, for tea or coffee and a biscuit for only 50p!

Events at Clyde Muirshiel Park in February include Art in the Park from 1-8 Feb at Castle Semple Centre, showing works by Lochwinnoch Art Group. The Centre is open from 10am to 3.30pm.

There’s a Stargazing Evening on Friday 18 Feb from 7pm to 9pm when you can check out the stars and planets at Clyde Muirshiel, weather permitting, otherwise there’ll be an indoor lecture.

On Sunday 20 Feb from 1.45pm you can help the birds get through winter by building bird boxes At Castle Semple.

The Kelly Cut Walk takes place on Sunday 20 Feb and is a 10km linear stroll from the Visitor Centre to Wemyss Bay. It begins at 11am.

There’s a Biodiversity Photographic Exhibition from Sat 26 Feb until Sunday 10 March at Clydel Muirshiel, where you can see a display of entries and prize winners.

Fairtrade Fortnight begins on Monday 28 Feb until Sunday 13 March at Castle Semple.

Continuing into March, Lochwinnoch Farmers Market is from 11am to 2.30pm on Sunday 6 March. For further details of any of these events call Castle Semple Centre on 01505 842882, Muirshiel Centre on 01505 842803 and Greenock Cut Centre on 01475521458.
