Working for Largs The Largs & Millport Information Bureau is part of the Largs Initiative and in addition supports the economic development in the town. Recently, a meeting of Business People was sponsored to discuss ways of improving the town and encouraging more visitors thereby making businesses more viable. As a result of this meeting, the Initiative is spearheading a campaign to make Largs a Business Improvement District (BID) which is sponsored by the Scottish Government. More information will be posted on this in the near future. Yuletide Evening is also arranged by the Initiative and discussions are taking place to make 2009 an even bigger and better event for all to enjoy. The Initiative is also playing a leading part in an attempt to save Moorburn House for the community rather than allowing it to be sold for development. A feasibility study is about to be undertaken with the front gardens made into a pay and display car park. Not only would this provide valuable income to maintain and staff the building but would also help to alleviate some of the car parking problem. In spite of the economic downturn, we believe that there may be great opportunities for tourism in this area. With the decreasing value of the £1 there is an opportunity to attract more foreign visitors and probably more U.K. people will be holidaying at home. They can all be sure of a warm welcome when visiting Largs. Being the year of the Homecoming and major investment in a number of businesses in the town, Largs is an even more attractive and interesting place to visit.
